Ride Kenya Maasai Mara ~ based in Olare Motorogi Conservancy on the edge of the Maasai Mara National reserve, the new Ride Kenya stables are perfectly placed to provide a truly amazing riding experience. Open for morning and afternoon rides and available to any of the camps in Mara North, Olare Motorogi or Naibosho. However, for the full Great Plains experience we'd recommend staying at Mara Plains or Mara Expedition Camp.

As the dry season settles in, we start to see a shift in wildlife movement patterns, as animals gravitate towards reliable water sources. Over the past week, we’ve seen growing numbers of oryx and zebra crossing the plains, eagerly making their way to the lodge waterhole.

A tribute to One Ton

Since his passing, so many stories, photos and memories have been shared. Together, they are a quiet reminder of just how many lives he touched.

Here on the ground, there is an almost tangible sense of stillness in the air.

Over the years, the stables team- humans and horses alike- have had the privilege of sharing One Ton’s home, often moving step for step alongside him on rides or with the horses grazing alongside him in the hills. For an elephant with such an enormous presence, he carried himself with a rare calmness.

As we have been working in the yard, a particular Swahili phrase has kept coming to mind: ‘Amemaliza safari yake’, which translates to ‘he has finished his journey’ or ‘he has come to the end of his journey’.

One Ton was fortunate to have lived his remarkable life to the absolute fullest. This is not something that was simply left to chance, but rather a testament to all those who work and have worked tirelessly to protect him and his home Big Life Foundation Great Plains Conservation

Finally, to One Ton, old chap. We will miss your gentle presence overseeing afternoon schooling sessions and our unspoken agreement regarding the stable rainwater tanks, amongst many other precious memories.
