TRAVEL UPDATE: MANDATORY TRAVEL INSURANCE FOR VISITORS TO KENYA

Planning to visit Kenya? Here’s an important update for travellers and our international travel partners.

According to the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF) update dated 8th October 2026, mandatory inbound travel insurance has been incorporated into new Kenya eTA applications, effective 6th October 2026.

What travellers need to know:

* The insurance currently costs USD 44, plus system charges.
* It applies to visitors entering Kenya by air, land and water.
* East African Community (EAC) citizens are exempt.
* Travellers with valid eTAs issued before the new requirement took effect have not reported entry challenges due to not having this insurance.
* At the time of the KTF update, clarification was still being sought regarding travellers with existing travel insurance policies.
