After surviving a lion attack, this zebra gets to keep his (rare) stripes

Grevy zebras are highly endangered with less than 2,000 individuals left in the wild. So, when this male fended off a lion attack but was left in intense pain, with a large injury that was in danger of turning septic, the DSWT/KWS Mount Kenya Vet Unit urgently raced to the scene to save him.

Upon arrival, the Unit darted the zebra and set about cleaning his painful and infected wound, covering it in green clay to aid healing and administering antibiotics. Thankfully, the operation was a complete success and we’re pleased to report that nearly a month later, this zebra has made a full recovery, a big boost to this rare species!
