The statistics for the Maasai Mara tell a very interesting story.
In 2021, Maasai Mara recorded 119.5 thousand visitors.
In 2022, the numbers jumped sharply to 249.9 thousand visitors — an increase of 130.4 thousand visitors.
Then in 2023, the Mara experienced its biggest boom, reaching 420.1 thousand visitors, meaning an increase of 170.2 thousand visitors from 2022.
However, in 2024, the numbers dropped drastically to 343.1 thousand visitors.
That is a decline of 77 thousand visitors within one year.
The situation became worse in 2025, where the figures further dropped to 213.3 thousand visitors.
This means Maasai Mara lost another 129.8 thousand visitors compared to 2024.
If you combine the drop from 2023 to 2025, the Maasai Mara has lost about 206.8 thousand visitors in just two years.
These are not just statistics — they reveal a worrying trend. While many parks across Kenya are recording growth in visitor numbers, Maasai Mara, one of the world’s most famous wildlife destinations, is experiencing a sharp decline measured in hundreds of thousands.
