Did you know you can only visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust elephant orphanage between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon? 🕚🐘

That one-hour window is carefully chosen so the baby elephants can enjoy their morning milk feed, stay on a consistent routine, and avoid stress from crowds during the rest of the day. It also allows keepers to focus fully on the calves’ health and emotional needs.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is one of those must-see stops that truly stays with you. Located inside Nairobi National Park, the trust rescues orphaned baby elephants who have lost their mothers to poaching, drought, or human-wildlife conflict.
During your visit, you’ll watch the calves drink their specially formulated milk, play in the mud, and interact closely with their devoted keepers.

One peculiar fact you should know the keepers act as surrogate families, offering comfort, sleeping near the calves, and helping them heal from trauma. Rehabilitation can take up to 10 years before the elephants are released back into the wild, mainly in Tsavo National Park.
