Spot the Difference!

This close-up of a giraffe’s head offers more than just charm—look at the horn-like structures on top, called ossicones. In giraffes, these can help you tell males from females!

Male giraffes usually have thicker, bald-topped ossicones, worn smooth from frequent necking battles with rivals.

Females, on the other hand, often have thinner ossicones that retain a tuft of hair at the top.
Bonus fact: Ossicones are formed from ossified cartilage and are permanently covered in skin and fur—unlike horns or antlers in other animals.
Next time you're giraffe-spotting, check the horns for clues—nature’s subtle gender ID!

Is snow fall a major concern on Mount kenya for hikers on this great Mountain?

Mount Kenya, experiences occasional light and SESONAL snowfall above 4,800 meters—mainly on its highest peaks: Batian, Nelion, and Lenana. However, due to strong equatorial sunlight, the snow typically melts quickly.

Best Hiking season: January to early March,June through October and December.
