From Pavement to Peak
Day 1: Nairobi → Old Moses Camp (3,300m) We left the noise of the city behind just after sunrise. It didn’t take long before the smooth roads gave way to winding forest tracks, and suddenly, we were on the mountain. By late afternoon, we’d trekked through lush moorland and reached Old Moses Camp our first base. The air was cooler, conversations lighter, and somewhere between setting up tents and sharing tea under the stars, strangers became teammates.
Day 2: Old Moses → Shipton’s Camp (4,200m) This was the day that tested our pace and spirit. Hours of climbing through dramatic landscapes giant lobelias, eerie rock formations, wide-open moorland that made the sky feel bigger. Some pushed through with grit, others with playlists and bad hiking jokes. By the time we reached Shipton’s, muscles ached but so did cheeks from laughing. Sleep came early, tucked in sleeping bags beneath a sky bursting with stars.
Day 3: Summit Day | Lenana Peak (4,985m) This was the moment. We rose at 2am in pitch darkness, headlamps flickering, breaths visible in the cold. Step by step, zigzagging through scree and silence, we climbed. Then, just before 6am Lenana. The summit. Wind howling. Hearts pounding. Tears. Shouts. Hugs. Photos. There are no words for what it feels like to stand above the clouds and watch the sun rise beneath you. But we tried. Later, we descended through the breathtaking Gorges Valley and reached the next camp on the Chogoria side, sleepier and prouder than ever before.
Day 4: Descent to Chogoria Gate → Nairobi Coming down felt surreal. Tired feet, quiet minds. We moved through bamboo forests and waterfalls, trading trail mix and stories. We weren’t the same people who began this journey. Somewhere up there, we’d shed fears, limits and maybe a little ego. By the time we got back to Nairobi, we were sunburned, muddy, and totally fulfilled.
