Poachers will think twice about smuggling ivory through Kenya, after a landmark ruling in Nairobi yesterday.

Tang Yong Jian, who pleaded guilty to ivory smuggling, was fined 20m shillings (£140,000) under tough new anti-poaching laws, devised to curb poaching and the trafficking of endangered species. Tang, a Chinese national, will face up to seven years in jail if he is unable to pay the fine.

Next week our guides will be out in the field as part of the Wild Eye Big Cats and Tuskers Safari. It is not uncommon to find some of our Big Cats, such as this lion, up trees. Something rather unusual when compared to many other safari destinations in Africa.

Where have you seen lions in tree?

Thanks to MagicalKenya for the image!

Step out in style this week...Magical Kenya wishes you all a lovely week ahead.

5 Reasons why wildlife photographer and safari guide Gerry van der Walt want to get back to the Masai Mara?

We can think of at least 100 more but these are a good start!

MagicalKenya

In less than three months I will be back in the Masai Mara with Mark Dumbleton when we will host a 10-day photographic safari. Now I have been lucky enough to work in, visit and photograph some truly amazing African destinations but I still get childishly excited each time I head up to Kenya. There...

Amboseli is without a doubt one of the most beautiful destinations in Kenya to view wild elephants. Add the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro into the scene and you have an incredible destination for photographers!

Our guides will be hosting 8 guests from across the world in February this year on our annual Big Cats & Tuskers Safari!

Canon 1Dx, 165mm, 1/5000, f/3.5, ISO 400 Amboseli National Park, Kenya In a few weeks I will be back in Amboseli with a group of guests where we will set out to photograph elephants, Kilimanjaro and the two combined. This was one of the first images I shot in the park during last year’s safari. Grea...

Ever wanted to get an idea for what go's on behind the scenes during our great migration safaris in the Mara Triangle?

Check out these 99 moments captured by the Wild Eye guides our guides and guests!

Yes, photographic safaris are about getting great images but there’s so much more to it than the industry leads you to believe. It’s about sharing magical experiences, amazing photographic opportunities and laughter. Lots of laughter. It’s about soaking up the essence of an area with new friends an...

Did you know that MagicalKenya hosts a number of athletics event which take place in some of the most pristine wilderness regions in East Africa?

Take the Masai Mara Marathon for example, a half marathon aimed at raising funds for the local community in the Mara conservancy.

This year the race takes place on 16 August and you can take part whilst still enjoying a safari to witness the Great Migration at the same time!

Experience the great wildebeest migration AND participate in the 2014 Masai Mara Marathon on 16 August 2014!

Share your shots from... The Equator

Many safaris in MagicalKenya start in Nairobi and cross north across the equator. At almost every crossing point you will find one of these signs and its almost compulsory to have your image taken alongside one.
