🐘 THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS IN AMBOSELI

For 18 elephants, the story ended far too soon. 💔

Now, there is a new development.

Four people have been arrested as persons of interest as a multi-agency investigation continues into the deaths of 18 elephants across the Amboseli ecosystem. Investigators have also recovered potentially toxic, unlabelled chemicals for further scientific analysis. Preliminary findings have pointed to possible poisoning, including suspected cyanide exposure.

But justice must follow evidence, not speculation.

These elephants cannot speak for themselves. They cannot tell us what happened. Their families cannot demand answers.

So now, we wait for the science, the investigation and the courts to reveal the truth.

If someone deliberately poisoned these magnificent giants, let the law find them—and let justice speak for the elephants. 🐘🇰🇪

💔 FAREWELL, BARAKA — THE RHINO WHO TAUGHT US TO SEE BEYOND SIGHT

Some goodbyes are harder than others.

Today, the wildlife world mourns Baraka, the beloved blind black rhino whose story touched hearts far beyond the boundaries of Ol Pejeta.

Baraka lived with challenges that would have broken many of us. He lost his sight, yet somehow he never lost his spirit. He remained jovial, gentle and full of personality, becoming a symbol of resilience and hope.

I had hoped to see Baraka again during our last visit to Ol Pejeta, but sadly, we weren't able to find him. At the time, it felt like a small disappointment. Today, that memory carries a completely different weight. 💔

We often travel into the wild searching for lions, elephants, leopards and spectacular moments. But sometimes, the animal who leaves the deepest mark on your heart is the one who simply reminds you what courage looks like.
Baraka's story was never really about being blind.

It was about seeing the world differently.

It was about surviving adversity.
It was about trust.
It was about resilience.
And above all, it was about showing us that an animal can become much more than a photograph—it can become a memory that lives with us forever.

Rest peacefully, Baraka. 🦏❤️

Your footprints may disappear from the earth one day, but your story will continue to walk through the hearts of everyone who knew you, cared for you, photographed you, or simply stood quietly in your presence.

Thank you for teaching us that sometimes, the strongest souls are the ones who have faced the darkest paths.

Get Well Soon, Baraka 🦏❤️

This time, the most cheerful rhino at Ol Pejeta was missing from our safari… and we truly felt his absence.

During our recent visit to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, we were hoping to see Baraka, one of Kenya's most remarkable black rhinos. But we were informed that the veterinary team was attending to him, and sadly, we couldn't have our usual encounter.

Those who have met Baraka know that there is something special about him. Despite his blindness, he has always carried such a calm, gentle and almost jovial spirit. His presence, his curiosity and the way he interacts with visitors make meeting him an unforgettable experience.

So, Baraka, wherever you are resting today, we are wishing you strength, good health and a very speedy recovery. 🦏❤️

We hope to return to Ol Pejeta soon and hear those familiar sounds again — and see our jovial old friend back where he belongs.

The Day Amboseli Fell Silent
There are moments when the African wilderness speaks without a sound.

The first call of a fish eagle at dawn...
The distant roar of a lion...
The gentle rumble of elephant families crossing the Amboseli plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro.

And then...

Silence.

Not the silence of sunrise, but the silence left behind when giants are gone.

The recent loss of 15 elephants in the Amboseli ecosystem has left conservationists and wildlife lovers heartbroken. As authorities continue investigating the exact cause, early evidence has pointed toward possible cyanide poisoning linked to contaminated agricultural produce.

But beyond the investigation lies a deeper tragedy.

These were not just elephants.

They were mothers guiding their calves, families walking ancient migration routes, and wise matriarchs carrying generations of knowledge. Elephants are known to grieve, protect one another, and remain beside their fallen companions. Their bonds are among the strongest in the animal kingdom.

This heartbreaking event reminds us that conservation does not end at the boundaries of our national parks. Wildlife and people share the same landscapes, and protecting these magnificent animals requires responsibility from all of us.
