Here are some interesting facts about giraffes:
• Height
Giraffes are the tallest land animals in the world, with a fully-grown male giraffe reaching heights of up to 5.9 meters.
• Sleep
Giraffes have one of the shortest sleep requirements of any mammal, sleeping only 5–30 minutes in a 24-hour period. They often sleep in short naps that last only a minute or two.
• Speed
Giraffes can run at speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour over short distances.
• Tongue
A giraffe's tongue can measure 18–20 inches long and is typically black, blue, or purple. Giraffes use their tongues to grasp and manipulate objects, such as removing leaves from plants.
• Spots
No two giraffes have exactly the same pattern of spots, which are similar to human fingerprints.
• Horns
Both male and female giraffes have two hair-covered horns called ossicones. Male giraffes sometimes use their horns to fight with other males.
• Posture
Giraffes spend most of their time standing up, including when they sleep and give birth. Newborn giraffes can stand up within minutes of being born.
• Habitat
Giraffes live in the dry savannahs of Africa, roaming among the open plains and woodlands.
• Size
An adult male giraffe can weigh up to 2,800 pounds, while a female can weigh up to 1,750 pounds.
• Feet
A giraffe's feet can grow to be over 6 feet long
