๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ’” FAREWELL, BARAKA KENYA WILL MISS YOU

Some animals become more than wildlife. They become part of our story.
Baraka was born at Ol Pejeta Conservancy on 20 November 1994, one of the first black rhinos born on its plains. His life changed in 2008 when he lost his right eye during a territorial fight. Cataracts later took his remaining sight, leaving him completely blind. Yet Baraka continued to live with remarkable strength, cared for around the clock in a protected enclosure.

Over the years, he became much more than a rhino. He became a symbol of resilience, conservation and hope and a favourite among the many people who had the privilege of meeting him. His name, Baraka, means โ€œblessingโ€ in Swahili. And to so many, that is exactly what he was. โค๏ธ
On Sunday morning, Ol Pejeta shared the heartbreaking news that Baraka had passed away at the age of 31. A post-mortem is being conducted to establish the cause of death.

Today, we remember the gentle giant who taught us that losing your sight does not mean losing your strength.
