A lot of uncertainty surrounded what would become our toughest and most extreme expedition of 2026. 2600kms, 10 days.

Looming El Niño. The threat of flooded laggaas. Ebola concerns. Extreme heat. Some of the remotest roads in East Africa. Unfamiliar communities and territories. And, of course, the ever-present possibility of vehicle breakdowns, hundreds of kilometres from help.

We had plenty of reasons to think twice.

But it began as all our expeditions do: many familiar faces, some questionable financial decisions, and a shared belief that no place is too remote.

This is how Jade Sea II began.
