A 5 Day Mount Kenya trek!

A trip to tell and re-tell . . .
I have this thing about great trips, trips that have a cauldron of stories, laughs, special moments, anything and everything. And hanging over the cauldron are all those amazing people who make sure it all works, who react calmly, are knowledgeable, conversational, people you want to keep in your head forever.

This trip is right up there (https://www.gotomountkenya.com/african-climbing-tour-mt-kenya-climb-chogoria-sirimon-route-5-day/)
or the Chogoria Traverse
(https://www.gotomountkenya.com/mt-kenya-trekking-sirimon-chogoria-5-day/)

One of the most popular African trekking tours. Scenic routes up Mount Kenya, Sirimon and Chogoria, producing a remarkably diverse and spectacular trek.

This river flows through three great northern reserves, Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba. This is spectacular country, set against a backdrop of the mighty Mountain Ol Olokwe.

The verdant riverine forest is a stark contrast to the arid thorn studded plains. Samburu is visitedby large herds of Elephants, drawn by the promise of water. In the dry season, the elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds, unearthing precious water. These waterholes then become a focal point for other game.

The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic Northern species, including Gerenuk, the Reticulated Giraffe, and Grevy’s Zebra. The forests along the river banks are home to many birds, including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and the Vinaceous Dove. These forests are also home to many Leopards, often seen at dusk. The sight of one of these beautiful and elusive creatures is always a rare treat.

Mount Kenya Trekking Chogoria – Point Lenana 7 days
This trip allows 7 days with time to acclimatize and ascend the mountain in safety. The "Round the Peaks" circuit is justifiably a magnificent tour to complete offering ever new views of the summits, glaciers and tarns with their unique high altitude vegetation. The descent by the Sirimon route takes one through some beautiful forest tracks and completes the traverse of the mountain.
The Chogoria route is our recommended and arguably the most magnificent ascent route to the summit area. It is the driest route up the mountain and the walk beside the Gorges Valley truly spectacular.

Accommodation on this hike is 4 nights in mountain huts and 2 nights camping. Nonetheless, if you prefer to camp you can do so on all nights on the mountain

Wild animals on Mt. Kenya do not normally come in contact with hikers and because of the dense forest most species are rarely seen. If surprised or provoked they, particularly cape buffalo and elephant, may attack.

Talking, frequently clapping or making a ‘hooting’ sound while hiking through the forest zones warns animals you are approaching and they should move away from you. Do not approach the animal or proceed along the trail if it fails to move away. Consider backtracking away from elephant and buffalo in particular. Feeding wild animals disrupts their natural behaviour and this includes monkeys, hyrax and birds. You may also be attacked if the animal is aggressive, so exercise caution and leave the wildlife alone. Do not break twigs or branches and leave flowers to grow where you find them — that is where they are most beautiful

Mount Kenya Trekking & Kilimanjaro Climbing Holiday
The existence of high mountains in East Africa was known to Europeans as far back as the first century A.D by a Greek merchant during a journey through inland Kenya.
These mysterious mountains, Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro were a point of curiosity and controversy for European explores for centuries due to the existence of snow on these twin equatorial mountains. This reality was at first rejected as the mountains were thought not high enough to have snow. No wonder then that even the communities living around them greatly deified these mountains!

Both Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro are wild mountains in a very wild continent, awe- inspiring and offer a route for every level of trekker and climber. It’s not surprising that trekking on these mountains is high on many travelers priority list. Very few people return from this trek unmoved by the experience of gazing at Mt Kenya or Kilimanjaro.

As you might imagine, it’s every travelers dream to get to the top. It’s a superb experience to enjoy the spectacular view of the wild Africa below captured from the highest points on the African continent…it’s a memory that money simply can’t buy!

Come, enjoy, trek, climb and rediscover what it’s like to be in awe.

Mount Kenya Climb: Burguret – Chogoria Traverse 6 Day
Going up this route is a challenge: rough underfoot, an overgrown track more used by elephants than humans, muddy when wet, no huts and with dense stands of giant bamboo and montane forest -why would you want to take it? Well it's for real wilderness aficionados.

The route was pioneered during colonial days and then abandoned for many years until it was re-opened in the early 90's. It provides a unique and completely natural mountain trekking experience. Up to point lenana then descend on the chogoria route provides the most spectacular views and completes a traverse of Mount Kenya.

Gentle hike down a broad ridge enjoying magnificent views back up the valley to the Mt Kenya snowy peaks, and down to waterfalls, tarns and lava flows in the Gorges Valley itself. Overnight in the Meru Mt. Kenya cabins - log fires, hot showers, beds - and if the supply vehicles have made it up through the forest, Tusker beers! Wildlife viewing possible in evening with elephant and buffalo often grazing outside our cabins and a large numbers of forest and moorland birds.
