In a visit to Kenya in 2012, Mr. Green Trading Founders, came to Kenya to explore
possibilities in the Waste Management Sector. They then launched Mr. Green Trading Africa
in September of 2014. Green’s strategy from the outset was to adopt an inside-out approach; starting by learning how local waste value chains function, and then scaling simple solutions to improve the sector creating a lasting competitive advantage.

We’re proud to join the first project of The Circulate Initiative’s Responsible Sourcing Initiative in Kenya, marking the programme’s expansion into Africa.

With support from The Coca-Cola Foundation and IKEA Foundation, this project aims to improve the lives of informal waste workers within our recycling value chain.

Kenya generates an estimated 983,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually. Informal waste workers - our Waste Heroes - play a vital role in collection and recycling, yet often face marginalisation, health risks, and low wages.

This initiative builds on the work of our Waste Heroes and reaffirms our commitment to a transparent, inclusive value chain. We look forward to working closely with The Circulate Initiative and supporting partners to make a meaningful impact to respect the rights of informal waste sector workers in Kenya.
