In continuation of our series about the beautiful Maa people did you know that They Had a Hangover Cure Before Anyone Else Did 🍻🐄
You might reach for painkillers, greasy food, or some mysterious green smoothie to cure a hangover — but the Maasai?
They’ve had the OG remedy for generations: fresh cow blood sometimes with milk 🤣
Yes, you read that right. The Maasai are well-known for their unique and deeply traditional diet, and fresh blood isn’t just a source of strength — it’s practically nature’s Red Bull (minus the sugar and questionable ingredients).
This wasn’t your everyday beverage, though. Drinking raw cow blood was reserved for important moments: ceremonies like circumcision, childbirth, and… after one too many gourdfuls of fermented milk.
Maasai elders believed it helped prevent or ease hangovers — proving once again that indigenous knowledge might just be one step ahead of modern science (and way cooler than chugging pickle juice).
So the next time you’re nursing a headache and regretting last night’s “just one more,” remember: the Maasai had it figured out centuries ago.
Traditional wisdom, 1 — modern brunch culture, 0. 😎
