Did you know that ;
Kipevu Oil Terminal
at the Port of Mombasa is capable of simultaneously handling three to four massive oil tankers, each with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) capacity of up to 170,000 to 200,000 tons.
1. The 770-meter-long terminal allows three large vessels to offload at the exact same time compared to the old one that could only handle one ship.
It comfortably accommodates large Aframax and Suezmax class tankers carrying up to 200,000 tons of product as previously mentioned above π
It enables ship's to discharge cargo at a high velocity of up to 8,000 litres per hour, drastically cutting down ship turnaround times from 4 days to just 2 days.
2. Product Pipeline Capacity
The facility utilizes five specialized sub-sea pipelines buried 26 meters under the seabed.
These connect to six dedicated onshore pipelines that channel fuel straight into Kenya Pipeline Company and oil refinery storage tanks.
It has distinct capacity pipelines for handling
White Oils: Petrol (PMS), Diesel (AGO), and Aviation Jet Fuel (DPK).
Black Oils: Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) and crude oil.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): Dedicated lines to stabilize cooking gas supplies for the region.
3. Regional Supply Impact
It handles the bulk of fuel demands not just for Kenya, but also for Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)
