Governors' has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara for a permanent tented camp and our hot air balloon safaris. “This is our second time flying with Governors' Balloon Safaris and it is the most incredible experience! Our pilot, Shane, was excellent and the whole staff outstanding! It is impossible to describe how beautiful this experience is! And the breakfast is wonderful as well! They have made-to—order omelette as well as all of our favorite brunch items! I can’t recommend this excursion enough!”

Our Story

For over 40 years Governors’ has been pioneering safaris, setting the standard for the classic African safari experience. Today, the Governors’ Camp Collection comprises 8 award winning luxury safari camps and lodges. We are the first hot air balloon operator in the Mara since the early 1970’s and we have flown more than 100,000 happy guests, over the best flight path in the Mara since then!

The adventure begins just before dawn. Departure is from a perfect natural launch site behind Little Governors’ Camp and flames from the balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. The first pink tongues of sunlight flicker across the skies as the balloon envelope fills with hot air, then rises. Suspended in a basket beneath the coloured canopy, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above all the magic of the Mara unfolding below you!
