During a recent aerial patrol in Tsavo East National Park, Tsavo Trust’s team spotted a melanistic female serval with three cubs, one of which was also melanistic. Melanism is a genetic mutation that causes an overproduction of the pigment melanin, resulting in the animal appearing mostly black.

Twitcher Tuesday! Lilac-breasted rollers are not just striking in appearance, they are also fearless hunters. If the prey is too large to swallow whole, they beat it with their wings or slam it against a rock or the ground until it is safe to eat. Our guests had the chance to witness this incredible hunting display on a recent game drive.

Twitcher Tuesday! The Pearl-spotted Owlet is one of the smallest owls in Africa, measuring just 17-21cm and weighing around 76g. Despite their size, they are bold hunters, preying on insects, bats, and small rodents and reptiles.
