THE ULTIMATE ALA-KUL GUIDE 🏔️🇰🇬
If you have only 3 days in Kyrgyzstan, this is the trek you cannot miss. From turquoise alpine lakes to natural hot springs, here is your complete 3-day itinerary for Ala-Kul.
📍 THE ROUTE: Karakol Gorge ➔ Ala-Kul Lake ➔ Altyn-Arashan
🗓️ Day 1: The Ascent
Logistics: Take a 2-hour UAZ ride from Karakol to the bridge (save those legs!).
Hike: 4-6 hours to Sirota Camp (2,800m).
Vibe: Lush pine forests and rushing rivers.
🗓️ Day 2: The High Pass
Hike: The "Big Day." Climb to Ala-Kul Lake (3,500m) and then push to the Ala-Kul Pass (3,900m).
The Reward: A 360° view of the Terskey Alatau peaks.
Descent: Down to Keldike Gorge for the night.
🗓️ Day 3: Relaxation
Hike: Descend into Altyn-Arashan Valley.
The Treat: Soak your sore muscles in natural hot springs 🛁.
Finish: Jeep or hike down to Ak-Suu village.
🥗 FOOD & WATER
Dining: Most yurt camps offer half-board (Dinner + Breakfast) for around €40. It’s usually hearty Kyrgyz food: Plov, Shorpo (soup), and plenty of bread/tea.
Water: No need to carry 5 liters! The trail follows a glacier river. Bring one small bottle and a filter/purification tablets. The water is as fresh as it gets.
🎒 PRO TIPS
Altitude: You’re going from 2,200m to nearly 4,000m. Pace yourself and drink tons of water.
Layers: High altitude = mood swings from the weather. Pack a windbreaker and thermal base layers.
No Cotton: It absorbs sweat, stays cold, and never dries. Go for synthetic or merino wool.
