Why travel to Kyrgyzstan with a local tour operator?

Kyrgyzstan appeals to travelers who want more than a standard sightseeing trip. People come here for alpine lakes, wide valleys, yurt camps, mountain roads, horse culture, and the sense of space that is becoming harder to find elsewhere. But that is also exactly why planning a trip here is not always as straightforward as it may seem.

A map can be misleading. What appears to be a short distance may take hours across mountain terrain. The most interesting places are often far from major towns, and the quality of transport, accommodation, and guiding can shape the entire experience. A beautiful country can quickly become tiring if the route is not planned well.

This is where a local tour operator makes a difference.

Advantour has been working across the Silk Rosd since 2003, with extensive experience in designing journeys throughout the region. We understand how to make travel in Kyrgyzstan feel comfortable, well paced, and reliable. That means choosing the right sequence of destinations, arranging experienced drivers, selecting accommodation that offers genuine rest, and making sure each part of the journey connects smoothly.

Just as important is local knowledge. Kyrgyzstan is not only about seeing Issyk-Kul, Song-Kol, or the mountains around Karakol. It is also about meeting local people, understanding nomadic traditions, and experiencing the country in a way that feels genuine rather than rushed. With thoughtful planning, the trip becomes deeper and far more enjoyable.

For travelers who value comfort and peace of mind, that support is essential. You do not need to spend weeks comparing routes, second-guessing logistics, or worrying about how things will work on the ground. You can simply travel, knowing the details have already been handled properly.

At Advantour, we create private and small group tours in Kyrgyzstan for travelers who want to see the country with confidence, comfort, and expert support.

Ecotourism in Kyrgyzstan Is On the Rise

In 2025, more than 271,000 tourists visited Kyrgyzstan’s nature reserves and national parks, a 24% increase from the previous year.

Protected natural areas currently cover 7.38% of Kyrgyzstan’s territory. The system includes 10 state nature reserves covering 509,900 hectares and 13 state nature parks with a total area of 724,900 hectares. These areas were established to preserve unique ecosystems, biodiversity, and rare or endangered species.

Among the most famous sites are the Sary-Chelek Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO and known for its alpine lake; the Issyk-Kul State Nature Reserve; and Ala-Archa National Park, located near Bishkek and popular with both locals and foreign visitors.

If you care about the environment and want to take part in an eco-tour in Kyrgyzstan, write to us - the local tour operator Advantour - at [email protected].

Kattama (katlama) is a traditional Kyrgyz flatbread made from layered dough and usually cooked in a cauldron or skillet. Kattama can be plain or prepared with onions, and its appeal lies in the soft centre and flaky, lightly crisp layers.

In Kyrgyz culinary culture, bread is more than simple nourishment. It is closely associated with hospitality and served at everyday meals and family gatherings, so even a modest flatbread carries cultural significance.

If you would like to try authentic kattama - freshly baked, too hot to hold, and exceptionally delicious - the Advantour team will be pleased to arrange a tour to Kyrgyzstan for you.

Kyrgyzstan is preparing for the VI World Nomad Games, which will take place from August 31 to September 6, 2026.

UNESCO will provide patronage for the event. The decision was made by the organization's Director-General, Khaled Al-Anani. This confirms the international significance of the Games as an initiative aimed at preserving and promoting traditional sports and games that form part of the world's intangible cultural heritage.

It should be noted that athletes from more than 100 countries will take part in the competitions. The program includes 43 sports, including various equestrian disciplines, national wrestling styles, archery, falconry, greyhound racing, and intellectual games.

At the same time, the World Nomad Games are not only a sporting arena but also a place where different cultures, traditions, values, and sporting practices come together. Guests of the event will be able to take part in traditional games, observe centuries-old crafts, listen to ethnic music, participate in master classes, try Kyrgyz national cuisine, and much more.

Kyrgyzstan: the perfect place for nature tourism, mountain adventures, and nomadic hospitality

On March 4, Euronews published an article describing Kyrgyzstan as the perfect place for nature tourism, mountain adventures, and nomadic hospitality.

Nature tourism is usually a reliable way to escape the crowds, but in many popular European destinations even that no longer works. Some places in Europe have been forced to limit the number of visitors and increase fees for activities such as hiking, while others have introduced environmental taxes amid record tourist numbers.

For adventure seekers who truly want to get away from it all, Kyrgyzstan is positioning itself as the ultimate escape.

More than 90% of the country is covered by mountain ranges, allowing visitors to enjoy impressive natural landscapes without the crowds.

In the mountains, travelers may encounter Kyrgyzstan's nomadic communities, who move to high-altitude pastures during the summer.

These nomadic communities are known for their warm hospitality and introduce guests to traditional dishes such as beshbarmak (boiled meat with noodles) and kumis (fermented mare's milk).

Travelers can also learn about nomadic cultural traditions such as horse riding, eagle hunting, and the making of felt carpets used to decorate yurts.

This year is a particularly good time to visit Kyrgyzstan if you want to discover nomadic culture, as the sixth World Nomad Games will be held here from August 31 to September 6, 2026.

Travelers from more than 60 countries, including most European nations, can visit the country without a visa.

If you keep wondering whether to travel to Kyrgyzstan, those “maybe later” thoughts may eventually turn into “I wish I had gone”.

The best time is always today.

Global hotel brands are expanding their presence in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, the international hotel services market remains relatively small, yet it is steadily gaining momentum. Activity is largely concentrated in Bishkek, where Hyatt, Wyndham, Accor, and Marriott already operate.

The upcoming entry of Hilton and AZIMUT signals a new phase of diversification within the sector.

There are many tours that cover individual sections of the Silk Road. But few arrange journeys that span several Silk Road countries within a single itinerary. Tour operator Advantour offers a small group tour that links China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia in one continuous journey across nine countries

In 36 days, you will travel nearly 7,000 km from Shanghai to Yerevan, tracing the ancient caravan routes from east to west. This is one guided expedition, designed and managed by a team that understands every border crossing, every flight, and the cultural nuances of each destination along the way.

What makes this expedition exceptional is not only its geography (although visiting 9 countries in one tour is undeniably remarkable), but also the precision of its organization. Thousands of travelers have been satisfied with our tours, which you can easily verify in open sources by entering “reviews about Advantour”.

The price of the tour starts at $10,060 per person. For all 36 days.

The tour price includes all transfers, domestic flights, and train tickets. English-speaking local guides in each country. Carefully selected hotels and much more. There will also be memorable cultural moments - family dinners, folklore performances, wine tastings.

The group size is limited to 1–16 travelers. We welcome solo travelers, couples, and friends.

36 days is not a short commitment, and we understand that this journey is not for everyone. It is not for those who collect countries like stamps or prefer to visit a single capital before quickly returning home. It is for travelers who understand that the Silk Road cannot be reduced to one city or one monument.

On February 18, a new 1-kilometer cable car opened in Ala-Archa National park, capable of carrying up to 1,000 guests per hour. For a park long celebrated for its alpine scenery and rewarding hikes, this marks a significant development. Areas once reserved mainly for experienced walkers are now within comfortable reach of every traveler.

The next phase is already planned - an extended 12-kilometer route from the checkpoint deep into some of the park’s most striking and previously hard-to-access landscapes. In practical terms, this means broader panoramic views, more time immersed in nature, and less physical effort.

Now you can ascend effortlessly above the gorge, take in snow-capped peaks and sweeping valleys, and still retain the energy to continue exploring Kyrgyzstan.
Several of our private Kyrgyzstan tours include a visit to the Ala-Archa Gorge. Now, with the new cable car, your time there becomes even more enriching and comfortable.

Discover Ala-Archa with Advantour!

Marta Marinelli visited Kyrgyzstan in 2025 and wrote travel notes after her journey. We found these online and believe they will be helpful when planning your visit to Kyrgyzstan.

When Marta Marinelli first told her friends she was traveling to Kyrgyzstan, most were skeptical - they could not pronounce the country’s name, let alone imagine a holiday there.

Now, after a week spent in the mountains and high-altitude pastures, she describes the trip as one of the most memorable of her life.

In her travel notes, “What I Would Like to Know Before Traveling to Kyrgyzstan”, Marta portrays a country of striking contrasts. One day she was kayaking on Lake Issyk-Kul, the next hiking through the red rock formations of Skazka Canyon, and then horseback riding across the vast Son-Kul Plateau. More than 90 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s territory lies at elevations above 1,500 meters, yet within a short distance the scenery shifts from alpine forests and waterfalls to wide open steppes dotted with yurts.

For Marta, however, the true highlight was not only the landscape. It was meeting eagle hunters who still train golden eagles as part of a family tradition, visiting yurt makers and local artisans, and sharing a generous home-cooked meal.

She acknowledges that the roads can be long and remote. Yet even these journeys became part of the story - endless horizons beyond the window and a sense of space rarely found elsewhere.

Kyrgyzstan may surprise you - just as it surprised Marta. Come to Kyrgyzstan!
