Reflections from our ShePeaks expedition, Kyrgyzstan, July 2026.
Oooh, the joys of sleeping in tents, sharing meals outdoors, washing in rivers and being surrounded by animals. We certainly met plenty of four-legged friends, baby donkeys (aaaaw!), foals, curious cows, so many horses, we even briefly adopted a puppy. 🐶
Every meal we were given was a surprise. We ate plov, dumplings, samsas and shashlik, sampled sweet red Kyrgyz wine and sour mares milk balls, met women with incredible gold smiles and men wearing traditional tall, felt hats.
We hiked over a breathtaking 2,950m mountain pass, with 360° views, waded through foliage taller than our heads before crossing a bridge made of ice... in the middle of summer!
Then came the boat ride through the crystal-clear waters of Sary-Chelek lake beneath the snow-capped Tian Shan peaks, a night in a yurt camp, wild swimming, horse riding, wandering bustling bazaars, singing with the locals before ending it all with the hottest sauna I think any of us had ever had.
Some adventures stay with you a life time... this one was certainly epic. 🏔️🏔️🏔️
