Here, we would like you to know about O’Svay community which is 1hr driving from the town.

🌿 The story of O’ Svay and Prince Norodom Sihanouk

In the 1960s, O’ Svay was a small and relatively undeveloped village in northeastern Cambodia, close to the Laos border. Prince Norodom Sihanouk became concerned that the area had a lot of unused land and that Cambodia needed a stronger population presence there.

During a visit in 1964, Sihanouk saw the situation and reportedly directed that the border area should be “occupied and developed.” His idea was not simply to build a village—it was also connected to protecting Cambodia’s territorial presence along the border with Laos.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 He brought people from other provinces

The government began a resettlement program to bring Cambodian families to O’ Svay.

People came particularly from provinces such as:

* Takeo
* Prey Veng
* Svay Rieng
* Kandal
* and areas of Kampuchea Krom

Retired soldiers, government officials, poor families and other Cambodian settlers were among those encouraged to move there.
