When talking about legacy, we often look at it as the resources that our ancestors or families have left for us as the new generation.

We call ourselves experience creators. We see everything that travelers experience—from history and ruined temples to the culture and natural resources around us—as part of a legacy. Often, when we speak of legacy, we lean toward the idea that we own it or that it exists solely for us. Because of this, we sometimes fall into the direct or indirect exploitation of these resources.

Angelina Jolie Visits Historic Theaters in Cambodia’s Battambang

BATTAMBANG, April 2, 2026 — Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie visited historic cultural sites in Cambodia’s Battambang province on Thursday, as part of efforts to support heritage preservation and restoration initiatives.

Jolie toured the Prasat Meas Theater building and the Battambang Cinema, two iconic venues in the provincial capital dating back to the 1960s, local officials said.

The visit was attended by Battambang provincial governor Sok Lou, along with local authorities and representatives from the culture and fine arts department.

According to officials, the trip was arranged at the invitation of Phare Ponleu Selpak, a prominent Cambodian arts organization, which is seeking Jolie’s support to rehabilitate and restore the aging cinema buildings.

The historic theaters, once central to Battambang’s cultural life, have deteriorated over time and are now seen as key candidates for preservation as Cambodia works to protect its artistic heritage.

Jolie, who has longstanding ties to Cambodia through humanitarian and cultural work, has previously supported conservation efforts and remains closely connected to the country.

Her latest visit highlights growing attention to safeguarding Cambodia’s cultural assets while promoting creative industries and tourism in provincial areas.

These photos carry the spirit of Cambodia’s spiritual legacy, something that has never disappeared with time. It has lived on since these beliefs were first formed and continues to breathe through generations today. Our spiritual heritage is woven into temples and ancient structures that have endured to the present day. The spiritual traditions and practices we follow today were once lived by the people who built these temples and were passed down through generations for us today.

When viewed from an educational perspective, temples are like Cambodia’s history books. Every corner and structure was built with purpose—from scenes of daily life to the preservation of culture through art and architecture.

Beyond stone inscriptions, we have learned so much from Angkor Wat and Bayon. They offer invaluable knowledge about the Khmer Empire, as well as insights into art, clothing, and agricultural practices.
