Today, the people of Cambodia observe the Royal Ploughing Ceremony, known as Preah Reach Pithi Chrot Preah Neangkol, a centuries-old tradition marking-the beginning of the rice-growing season and hopes for a bountiful harvest.
Rooted in ancient Brahmanic and Hindu practices, the ceremony reflects the deep connection between the land, the people, and the monarchy.
During the ritual, sacred oxen plough in the field and are later presented with offerings, with their choices believed to foretell the agricultural outlook for the year ahead.
