This Angkor Kingdom Guide Book is, written by Mr. Hem Sophoan who has been a professional tourist guide for Cambodia for over ten years, for national and international visitors to the World Heritage Site of Angkor at Siem Reap in Cambodia.
Whilst the book can be read in advance of your visit, and that would be advised, it is written for those people who want to undertake a visit at their own pace to the differing temple sites in the Angkor complex.
The book aims to reveal the stories written in the stone work of the temples as well as the historical and religious contexts. There are many fascinating stories to tell as well as appreciating the superb architecture.
These stories include the history of the temples and the relationship with the changes of the Hindu and Buddhist religions throughout Angkor; how the temples were constructed and how they share a similar ground plan; the symbolism of the mythology, Buddhist and Hindu stories which are depicted in the carvings of each temple; and how the temples are being conserved and, in some cases, restored.
