CambodiaBiking.com is operated by THENG Samban (Sam). Sam was born in 1979 in the rural province of Kompong Speu where he lived until 1998. He moved to Phnom Penh for further studies, and in 2002 Sam was recruited by Mr. Kim Horn owner of Christinair Tours, which is one of the largest tour companies in Cambodia. Later, Sam became an independent tour contractor and English speaking tour leader for different companies. In 2009 Sam established his own tour company, Merry Travel Asia.
Merry Travel Asia, though small, is considered one of the best service providers in Southeast Asia. Sam has always tried to invest some of his time and resources in local communities. Recently Sam has combined his love of biking through villages in Cambodia with a biking service project designed to provide funds to support operating costs for free biking training courses and these funds are called Cambodia Biking Foundation (CBF).
Sam met Pheng Polin (Polo), a young Cambodian National Cyclist on one of his bike trips through Cambodia to help guide a student group from the Nobles and Greenough School outside of Boston of USA. After a few years racing for the country and guiding, Polo became a National Cyclist Coach. Sam was impressed with Poloβs biking skills and attitude of dedicating himself to train young Cambodian Cyclists and guiding. After talking with Polo about ideas for generating support for the Cambodian Youth who love biking but lack the support buy bikes and, take training courses, Sam decided to create the website, CambodiaBiking.com, to promote Biking Tours to Cambodia and bring tourists to visit local villages and world heritage sites such of Angkor Wat, so that tourists can have a chance to experience biking with our professional biking team, engage with real Cambodian culture, and donate or volunteer as a coach at our free bike training courses. Tourists also get the experience of having typical cuisine in the local village or buying local products, souvenirs which will directly benefit the local merchants.
As part of a Cambodian Biking local community adventure, you as a participant will experience the soul of Khmer culture in a fascinating and beautiful country the way it should be experienced-off the βtourist trails.β Not only will you see the classical Khmer sites, but also local temples and traditional communities not often experienced by tourists. The ultimate satisfaction will come from knowing that your Cambodian biking experience is contributing directly to the welfare and biking skills of Cambodian Youth who are less fortunate, often with no parents. You are giving these children opportunities they would never have without your support.
