North Gate of Angkor Thom
A Journey Through Symbolism and Power
The North Gate of Angkor Thom is more than just an entrance, and it is a masterpiece of engineering, spirituality, and royal ideology from the height of the Angkor Empire.
Built in the late 12th century under the reign of King Jayavarman VII, this gate reflects both the king’s devotion to Buddhism and his vision of a powerful, harmonious kingdom. At the same time, it was a ceremonial gate for the opening procession inside the city.
