Banteaysrei Temple
Material: Built largely of red/pink sandstone, which allowed for highly detailed carvings.
Scale: Smaller than most Angkor temples, but its intricate decoration makes it unique.
Style: Considered the pinnacle of Khmer classical art, with delicate bas‑reliefs illustrating Hindu epics such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata.
Nickname: “Citadel of Women” (Banteay Srei) — believed to reflect the temple’s delicate beauty, as if only women could have created such fine work.
