is a magnificent ancient city in Cambodia, built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII as the last capital of the Khmer Empire. Covering 9 square kilometers, it is surrounded by high walls and a vast moat, with five monumental gates leading into the city.
At the heart of Angkor Thom is the Bayon Temple, famous for its enigmatic stone faces carved into its towers. Other notable structures include the Terrace of the Elephants, used for royal ceremonies, and the Terrace of the L***r King, adorned with intricate bas-reliefs depicting Khmer mythology. The city also houses the Baphuon Temple, the Royal Palace, and the Phimeanakas Temple, each with its own historical significance.
Angkor Thom was a political and religious center, reflecting the grandeur of the Khmer Empire. It remained an important site until it was abandoned in the early 17th century. Today, it is a major tourist attraction within the Angkor Archaeological Park, offering visitors a glimpse into Cambodia’s rich history.
