On the eve of International Mine Awareness Day 2026 APOPO unveiled a statue of Magawa, the Mine Detection Rat who won a PDSA Gold Medal for bravery. Magawa discovered more than 100 landmines and explosive remnants of war over his career. Carved by local artisans from Banteay Meanchey sandstone, his statue is a powerful symbol of how collaboration, innovation and effort are saving lives and transforming livelihoods. We thank our partners at CMAC and the guidance of the CMAA for their support, and were thrilled to be able to celebrate this statue with them.
