Experience the authentic Cambodian local living with our optional countryside tour in Siem Reap, led by lady drivers.
Our Local Living Experience Tours plus Sunset package costs $30 and runs from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

We will pick you up from your hotel in a Ruemok, a local transport called Tuk Tuk, and take you to one of the largest local markets in Cambodia. Here, you can taste Khmer food like Banh Chev, Num Krouk, Song Wak snacks, and more. You will also get to try Baby duck eggs, Roast beef, and Cambodian rice noodles.

After the market, we will take you to the countryside to capture the essence of Khmer life in the remote community outskirts of Siem Reap. You will get to visit small villages, exchange experiences of daily life, lifestyle, farming, and see various vegetable farms, raising cows, buffalos, ducks, and chickens.

We will also visit one of the most beautiful pagodas in Siem Reap, an old Buddhist temple, where you will learn about Buddhism and get Water Blessings from Buddhist monks.

Our next stop is the Lotus Farms, where you can relax and enjoy the gentle sunset from a traditional Khmer house while sipping cold water, soft drinks, or cold beer. You can even take a nap on a hammock for the full sunset view experience.

Don't miss the chance to explore Siem Reap's authentic local living experiences with our guided tour!

Tourism has the potential to be a powerful tool for empowering women, and the Tuktuk Ladies project in Cambodia is an excellent example of this. The initiative was launched by Sarou, the founder of Roots Cambodia, Roots Organization Cambodia in partnership with the local NGO Roots Organization. Its objective is to provide female drivers to solo female travellers, ensuring their comfort, safety, and financial independence. This project also supports the families of these female drivers and helps to provide better education for their children.

Women play a significant role in the lives of tuk-tuk drivers in Cambodia. They help manage finances and navigate the city. They are also essential customers, especially at night when it may be unsafe for them to walk or take public transportation. Tuk-tuk drivers are often relied upon to provide safe and dependable transportation for women, and many take this responsibility seriously.

Many female tuk-tuk drivers in Cambodia are challenging gender norms and breaking stereotypes. These women support themselves and their families, inspiring other women to pursue their dreams and enter the male-dominated field of transportation.

The Tuktuk Ladies project has grown to include seven members since reopening in 2022. While the group does not discriminate against male tuk-tuk drivers, they only work until dinner time to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers. Male drivers are used as backup when female drivers are unavailable.

The Tuktuk Ladies project is a shining example of women supporting women and creating positive change through tourism. It is crucial to recognise the contributions of women in Cambodia's tuk-tuk transportation and not undervalue them, as they play a vital role in the safety and success of drivers and passengers alike.
