The East Mebon was dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and honors the parents of the king. Its location reflects Khmer architects’ concern with orientation and cardinal directions. The temple was built on a north–south axis with Rajendravarman's state temple, Pre Rup, located about 1,200 meters to the south just outside the baray. The East Mebon also lies on an east–west axis with the palace temple Phimeanakas, another creation of Rajendravarman's reign, located about 6,800 meters due west....

in Cambodia, built on what was once an artificial island in the ancient Khmer capital of Hariharalaya. Part of the Roluos group of temples near Siem Reap, Lolei features four brick towers and is noted for its intricate carvings. Construction: The temple was built in 893 AD by King Yasovarman I, who dedicated it to the god Shiva and his own royal ancestors. The name "Lolei" is thought to be a modern version of "Hariharalaya," the name of the capital city before the king moved it to the Angkor area.
Island temple: Lolei was constructed on a small island in the center of the now-dry Indratataka baray (a large man-made water reservoir). This placement was meant to symbolically represent Mount Meru, the home of the gods, which in Hindu cosmology is surrounded by oceans.
