Besides the energy conservation, bicycling is the preferred method simply because you do not utilize any biomass/fossil fuel as required by an internal combustion found e.g. Bicycle is powered by pure energy created through the pedaling action by us. Cycling is safest and makes us do incredible thing, we wriggle our body left and right, increase and decrease pedaling speed to stabilize the bike or to stop it from falling over. We do this first with great self-controlled however, after awhile it becomes automatic.
