Leaving Cambodia.
Today I'm going to write about yesterdays trip to Laos as it is still bothering us.
Tickets in the town centre to ''4,000 islands'' for a 6 hour trip with minivan cost 21$, but with a normal bus, 11 hours trip - 19$. Of course we took a 6 hour trip as the difference was only a couple of dollars. In the morning while we were waiting for the minivan, one of the drivers said, "please have some breakfast as we will drive very fast with just 5 minute stops and then at the border for a longer time to sort out visas." We left at 7.30am as it said on the ticket BUT not with a minivan.. We were getting on some old bus and were told that we will change to a minivan later. On the road we stopped about 3 times and arrived to the place where it looked like a mini bus station and had a restaurant. Driver told us that we are staying here for only 30 minutes. WE STAYED 2 HOURS. Getting on the same bus again I asked if it is the same bus, because we booked a MINIVAN WITH A 6 HOUR TRIP. Driver just shouted: ''it is going to Laos''! Apparently he didn't care, nobody did. After about an hour drive we arrived not TO the border, but NEXT to the border at some small shop. One local person with a the green card on his neck came in to the bus and started loudly asking everyone to get out fast. He gave us visa documents to fill in, asked for a photo and when it was time to pay everyone got furious. It was 45$ per person. All the travelers knew that is too much, but his excuse was that it is the weekend and the border is closed, so he had to go and sort out all of our visas ('' what a hero ''). Two German guys filled their visas and quietly went to the border on their own. Japanese guys as normal have free visa entry to Cambodia, but they paid 15$ each for not having a photo. There was a lot of arguing and almost fighting, but at the end we finally received our sorted visas. We got on the bus again and still thinking where are these two guys who left to the border on their own. Just in front of the border we changed the bus and finally saw our minivan! The poor driver was waiting for us for 4 hours. With the minivan we stopped just after the border and saw two German guys sipping beer after they sorted their visas for only £36$ each without having photos. The trip to the boat took about 30 minutes, but some of the backpackers missed their bus to Pakse which means they will miss their planned trip next morning and will loose all trip money. NOBODY CARES. At around 8pm we were at Don Det island still stressed and tired. It was a 12 hour trip instead of 6 hours, but we are finally here.
Internet is horrible in here so tomorrow we will go to the internet station to upload more photos and videos. Also we will write more about Cambodia.
