Alien registration and card
Identification card is issued for Korean who is more than 17 years old in Korea.
In case of foreign people who are staying in Korea, there is identification card for foreigners too.
This is called as Alien registrations card.
This Alien registrations card is mandatory in order to stay more than 90 days in Korea legally.
Alien Registration.
* Must register within 90 days from the date of your entry.
* in case of foreign people who had an authorization for changing status of stay, it is required to do alien registration on the date when the authorization has been given.
* For Canadian B-2 visa (Tourist/Transit visa) holder who has been stayed 5 month and like to change his/her status of stay, this visa holder must do alien registration when he/she applies for chage status of stay.
Who need to do alien registration?
1. Any foreigners who plan to stay in Korea more than 90 days.
2. Any foreigners who was born in Korea but lost Korean nationality and wish to stay in Korea more than 90 days.
* There are exceptions for alien registration. (Alien registration won't be necessary for foreigners listed below)

-Foreigners and their family who currently work for international agreement, diplomacy, and international government affairs.
- Foreign people who currently participate in the field of diplomacy, industry, and national defense and their family.
- Canadian who has D-1, D-6, F-1, F-3, or G-1 and plan to stay in Korea less than 6 month.
- Underage foreigners who is younger than 17 years of age.
With alien registration card, you can have legal right to stay in Korea.
One of my foreign client visited Korea for business purpose and successfully has obtained D8 visa.
The legal period of stay for corporation investment visa (D-8-1) is up to 2 years. But this period might be changed by an amount of investment and purpose of investment or business.
(Generally 1 year of period for legal staying is given)
D8 visa is issued for foreigners who have business or investment related purpose. And extension for D8 visa is highly depended on profit of the business.
If income of the business is low, extension would be rejected.
