Gyeongju Hyanggyo Revitalizes Traditional Culture Through Korean Wedding Ceremony Showcase

On August 16 at 3 p.m., Gyeongju Hyanggyo successfully held a traditional Korean wedding ceremony showcase at Myeongnyundang, drawing an audience of over 180 citizens and tourists.

The event was designed to preserve the fading customs of traditional weddings while offering visitors a vibrant cultural experience. Highlights included a lively performance by a pungmul troupe, a procession featuring the bride and groom in traditional wedding attire, the symbolic palanquin ride for the bride, and a hands-on rice cake pounding activity. These diverse programs captivated the audience and received enthusiastic responses.

Supported by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, the event is part of an ongoing cultural initiative held annually from April at Gyeongju Hyanggyo’s Myeongnyundang. It continues to garner steady interest and positive feedback from both local residents and visitors.

Lee Jong-am, the head of Gyeongju Hyanggyo, stated, “The traditional wedding ceremony showcase is more than a mere reenactment—it offers a valuable opportunity to experience Korea’s unique etiquette and cultural heritage firsthand.” He added, “We will continue to promote the value of traditional culture through ongoing programs.”
