The result of meeting with Paju city Parliamentarians and Government Officials for Cooperation to resume DMZ Tourism
The Democratic Party’s Park Chung and Yun Hoo Deok, members of Parliament discussed the early resumption and support measures for DMZ tourism with Park Yang Woo, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism(MCST), Park Cheon Gyu, Minister of Environment(ME), Deputy Minister Park Cheon Gyu, and Vice Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs(MAFRA), Lee Jae Wook on 7 Jan 2020 at Parliament House.
Paju Lawmakers requested here “ Small business owners are seriously affected by the discontinuance of DMZ tourism, As the risk of ASF has been considerably lowered and Paju city is taking tremendous protection measures.” “As soon as the tour resumes, prepare a plan for DMZ tourism to come back to life again, and take a countermeasure against existing damage.” “The central government should also take action to resume the DMZ tourism as soon as possible.”
MCST said, “About 60% of ASF-related budgets for next year will be supported in Paju.” ME said “When Paju completes the installation of additional fences in the secondary fence for two weeks in Paju, and if it is determined that the possibility of virus spread is low through safety inspections such as surveying the status of wild boar habitats in the area, the results will be sent to MAFRA.” And ordered priority action at Paju. MAFRA said “As soon as the results are sent from the ME, we will confirm the action in Paju and decide whether to restart.
Participants in the meeting decided to do their best with the goal of resuming tourism in early or mid February.
