STINGRAY FACT OF THE WEEK ☀️🌊

You can hide from a stingray’s eyes, you can’t hide your heartbeat!

A Southern stingray can sense your heartbeat without touching you. Southern stingrays have special electroreceptors called the ampullae of Lorenzini around their mouth and underside. These detect the tiny electrical fields produced by living animals, helping the ray locate prey hidden completely beneath the sand! 🦐🪱

So when you see a stingray gliding over the bottom and suddenly stop to investigate one particular spot, it may be detecting an animal it cannot even see.

That also explains something guests often notice, those little holes and depressions in the sand aren’t random. Stingrays use their extraordinary senses to find buried prey and excavate it!

🔥🌊 This is the BABY STINGRAY - The Tiny Ocean Glider! ✨😍

Found in shallow coastal waters, baby stingrays are fascinating young rays with delicate, flattened bodies and graceful fins that help them glide effortlessly across the seafloor.

Their translucent bodies can reveal beautiful internal structures, making them look almost magical as they move through the clear blue water. 🥹💙

As they grow, stingrays become skilled bottom-dwellers, using their flattened bodies to search the sandy ocean floor for small prey.

✨ Did you know: Baby stingrays are born fully formed and can swim and hunt on their own shortly after birth!
