The symbol of Almaty city - Hotel "Kazakhstan" is the first high-rise building that was built in seismically dangerous areas of the USSR. The design of the hotel was developed by the famous architect Yuriy Ratushniy. A 25-storey building was erected in 1977 and can withstand a 9-point earthquake.
