🗼Burana Tower
🇰🇬Chuy Region, Kyrgyzstan
Best known archeological site in Kyrgyzstan.
Being once a minaret of a mosque, Burana Tower is located near Tokmok in the territory of Balasagun, which was a medieval capital (9th - 14th centuries) of Karakhanid Khanate and home to famous medieval poet Yusuf Balasaguni, author of the poem Kudatgu Bilig (Beneficial Knowledge). The tower was built in the first half of the 11th century. With time, the mosque got completely destroyed, and the minaret was partially ruined by an earthquake in the 15th century. Today, the tower stands at about 25 meters, although it was originally 45 meters tall.
Near the tower there is a "rock garden" in which there are ancient millstones, samples of rock art from the 1st century BC, and balbals - ancient stone sculptures dated to the 6th-10th centuries. Burana is located 80 km from modern capital city Bishkek, ten minutes drive from the city of Tokmak on the left bank of the small Chu River.

⛰Mount Sherkala
🇰🇿Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan
Mount Sherkala has been described as looking like a piala (a small bowl), a yurt (Kazakh national round dwelling) or a lion. These various metaphors have caused the appearance of many legends and beliefs that now surround the mountain. According to historians, a fortress city once stood near it. The ruins, which you can see here, are traces of an ancient burial. In addition, around the mountain there are round boulders, some of which are destroyed by weathering.
It will take more than an hour to get around Sherkala, and it will take much longer to explore the caves. There is a belief that the mountain will fulfill your desire, if you go around it. Although no one knows if it's true. The truth is that the indescribable, unique energy of the Mount Sherkala fascinates everyone who visits it.

🏜️Aral Sea
🇺🇿Uzbekistan & 🇰🇿Kazakhstan
The Aral Sea is a sad reminder of what can happen if we intervene in nature.
We don't appreciate what we have until it's gone. This phrase fits the situation with the Aral Sea perfectly. In recent decades, much of the water which used to flow into the Aral Sea has been taken for growing crops. As a result, the sea has shrunk dramatically. Although this is the region of ecological disaster, you can still admire the landscape, especially salt pans sparkling in the sun.
Now the Aral Sea is divided into two parts - the Big Aral and the Small Aral, where fishing is done. Many phytoplankton species live in the sea. People rarely swim here, mainly for the purpose of health improving (the water contains some salts that have beneficial effect on the body).
Currently, attempts to restore the sea are made, mainly by improving quality of irrigation canals, and installing desalination plants.

Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum
🇺🇿Khiva, Uzbekistan
The mausoleum of Pakhlavan Makhmud was originally built mainly in the XIV century in the form of a small gurkhan (burial space), in which a large “Pir” (spiritual mentor) of his time was buried - Pakhlavan Makhmud (1247-1326). Pahlavan Mahmud was born in 1247 in Khiva, in the family of a furrier artisan who sews Khorezm sheepskin coats. Even in his early youth he was engaged in the craft of his father - making postuns, later mastered literacy, reached the degree of the great poet-philosopher.
In addition, he was still a strong wrestler, and during his 79 years of life he was never defeated in wrestling competitions.
He was also called the free-thinking scientist-philosopher, the owner of great talent and insight, in relation to poetic observation, “Khayyam of Khorezm.” He wrote lyric poems (ghazals) under the pseudonym “Kitoli”, - a fighter, in 1303-1304 he created a work called “Kanz ul-hakoik” (“Treasury of truths”).

🌙 Moon Canyon (Uzunbulak Canyon)
🇰🇿 Almaty Region, Kazakhstan
Carved by wind and water, Moon Canyon is known for its pale, sculpted rock formations and stark lunar-like landscapes.
Located in the Almaty Region, it forms part of the dramatic canyon scenery east of the city.

🆕 Mangystau Rock Mosques Join UNESCO
🇰🇿 Mangystau Region, Kazakhstan
Carved into the limestone cliffs of western Kazakhstan, the rock mosques of Mangystau reflect centuries of spiritual tradition shaped by the region's unique landscape.
On 25 July 2026, five sacred sites—Beket Ata, Shopan Ata, Karaman Ata, Shakpak Ata, and Sultan Upi—were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, recognizing their outstanding universal value.

Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi
🇰🇿Turkestan, Kazakhstan
This world-famous mausoleum, located in the Turkestan region, was built in honor of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, an outstanding Muslim leader and poet. This monumental building, 39 m (128 ft) high, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are 35 rooms, including a library full of ancient books, Hilvet underground mosque, a bathhouse, a room for blessing newborns. In the central room, there is ancient Tai-Kazan, a bronze ritual cauldron where water was poured for Muslims to drink after Friday prayer.
The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi is a place of great religious and cultural impotance. This is a must-see destination for everyone who comes to the Turkestan Region.

Kalta Minor Minaret
🇺🇿Khiva, Uzbekistan
The Kalta Minor is an unfinished minaret located near the west entrance to the Ichan Kala (old city). It was commissioned in 1851 by Mohammed Amin Khan, the ruler of Khiva, as an architectural marvel intended to rise over 70 meters—supposedly high enough to see Bukhara in the distance to the east.
The Khan's untimely death while encamped on a Persian battlefield in 1855 put an end to the project when the minaret reached a mere 26 meters. However, even in unfinished form the structure is dazzling, covered from top to bottom with Khiva's signature blue-green tiles and various geometric patterns. A band of tiles near the top encircles the minaret with an inscription in nastaliq script, a calligraphic font commonly used for writing in Persian.
