Xangnoi fishing at dusk after a hard day building our new restaurant and bar on the recently filled hydro Lake Nam Ou, 16kms from Luang Prabang in Laos.

Travellers returning to Luang Prabang down the main highway (Route 13) from Nong Khiaw will now have a fabulous lakeside place to stop for a coffee, food or drink with clean, western style toilets along with plenty of parking at Nam Ou Café & Kayaks.

There will also be kayak hire, and fishing spots on the edge of the lake.

Butterfly Heaven

A white butterfly and 3 blue tigers on the Mekong River beach at Ban Kok Phu

Laos is a butterfly heaven with hundreds of recorded species. Frocked out in iridescent blues, metallic greens and flame reds they are a neon of flashing colours.

On your trips down the river you'll see them everywhere, especially on the beach always feeding in the same spot sipping mineral rich water, like this white butterfly Polyura nepenthes and the 3 dark blue tigers or Tirumala septentrionis jostling for the best spot to feed.
