July 13, 2025 is an important day for Lao Tourism, because from now on, the Hin Nam No Nature Reserve Complex in Khammoune Province, Central Laos is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is the 4th UNESCO World Heritage Site in Laos (previously classified sites include: Luang Prabang Ancient Capital, Wat Phou Complex in Champasak Province - the same age as Angkor Wat, and Plain of Jars in Xieng Khouang).
Khammoune has always been a hidden gem because it has a giant cave system, majestic mountain landscapes including:
🇱🇦 Xe Bang Fai Cave: The longest river cave in the world, with a length of 14km, the same geological line as Phong Nha Ke Bang in Vietnam
🇱🇦 Konglor Cave: In the top 5 longest river caves in the world, with a length of 7km.
🇱🇦The highest Zipline complex in Southeast Asia - The Rock View Point with adventure activities: Zipline, walking on spider webs, cycling in the air from one mountain peak to another, below is the majestic rocky landscape likened to China's Stone Forest.

✈️ XIENG KHOUANG AIRPORT IS EXPECTED TO RE-OPEN IN JUNE 2025
After nearly a year of suspension for renovation and upgrading, Xieng Khouang Airport (Phonsavanh Province, Laos) will officially resume operations from June 2025 - marking an important turning point in the transport infrastructure of the Northern Laos region.
📌 Temporary closure period: 1/10/2024 – 31/5/2025
📌 Renovation period: 243 days
📌 Main investor & sponsor: Lao Government, technical support & equipment from Russia
🔧 Notable upgrade items:
• Extend the runway by 550 meters to accommodate large aircraft
• Build new taxiways
• Upgrade lighting systems, radar and install electronic scanning equipment
• Improve the passenger terminal

🚀 It is expected that by the end of 2025, the entire project will be completed, helping the airport to accommodate a larger number of passengers, while enhancing its ability to serve defense missions.
Since 2020, the airport has been managed by the Lao People's Army Air Force, but still maintains civilian operations - opening up opportunities to connect tourism, investment and trade to the historic and beautiful land of Xieng Khouang.

🚐First Day of Free Bus Service in Luang Prabang!🛺 City Temporarily Bans Tourist Vans in Heritage Zone

From 24 February to 2 March, tourist vans will no longer be allowed within the heritage area. Instead, they must drop off and pick up passengers at That Luang, where visitors can transfer to free eco-buses or explore the city on foot or by bicycle. This initiative, led by JICA and local authorities, aims to ease congestion, and protect the city’s accessibility.

The free busses and tuk tuks run daily from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm around the historic peninsula, with a special trial route connecting the railway station and Kuang Si Falls to the city.

Authorities encourage both locals and visitors to walk or cycle around the peninsula. The walk from That Luang Park to the Mekong-Nam Khan confluence is round 2.4 km (33 minutes).

While the transition may come with some hiccups, but authorities urge patience and support for sustainable tourism efforts.

On 8 February, Savannakhet authorities officially recognized Stone House, locally known as Heuan Hin, as a local heritage site.

Located in Xayphouthong district, Heuan Hin is a significant historical and archaeological site, renowned for its large standing stones reminiscent of monuments like Stonehenge.

Believed to date back to the 9th century, the site is attributed to the ancient Khmer civilization that once flourished in the region. The arrangement of the stones is thought to have served astronomical functions or been part of religious ceremonies.

Lao Airlines Launches Direct Flight from Vientiane to Ho Chi Minh

Lao Airlines has announced the launch of a direct flight from Vientiane to Ho Chi Minh City, set to commence on 27 October.

The direct flights will operate daily. Passengers are allowed one checked bag weighing up to 20 kg and a carry-on bag of 7 kg.

This new service is expected to boost tourism and business ties between Laos and Vietnam, making travel more accessible for both residents and visitors

Xieng Khoang Airport to close for renovation starts from 01 Oct 2024 - 31 May 2025
According to official Announcement from Lao Goverment, the Xieng Khoang Airport is going on a renovation just after the rainy season ends - October 2024. All the domestic routes that connect with Xieng Khoang has been stopped selling ticket, includes flights operated by Laos Airlines and Lao Skyway.
Xieng Khoang is one of the most famous tourist provinces in the Northest East of Laos. The province features it historical beauty with the 3rd UNESCO site - The Plain Of Jars and the colorful authentic life of Hmong community.
