Enjoy your stay in Thakhek in a family atmosphere. In addition to comfortable beds, we also offer an orchid garden. Relax under banana, mango, and papaya trees.You will also find a variety of local restaurants along the Mekong in close proximity.
For our customers, we also bring the motorcycles to you at the hostel.
Of course, we also provide free WIFI.

Liebe Motorradfreunde (update 2025)

Ich möchte euch mit grosser Freude und Stolz mitteilen, dass wir bereits einige Gäste in unserem neuen Hostel (Das Fips’s Inn Hostel Thakhek) von Mad Monkey begrüßen durften und ihnen auch dort den gewohnten Service zu einem fairen Preis bieten können. Unsere Preisliste fuer die bikes ist weiterhin in USD abgefasst!!
In laotischer Währung ist das aufgrund der rasenden Inflation nicht mehr Sinnvoll. Ich bitte daher, um euer Verständnis. Wir haben es geschafft, auch nach fast 3 Jahren Lock down euch den gleichen Service zu bieten, ohne die Preise zu erhöhen und da sind wir sehr stolz darauf. Bester Service zu fairem Preis!
Leider benutzen manche Guesthouses und Restaurants die Gunst der Stunde und bieten den Touristen eigene Scooter zum Mieten an. Diese haben oft keines, oder ein „gelbes“ Nummernschild. Das ist aber in Laos streng verboten und kann sehr hohe Bußgelder mit sich bringen. Besonders keikel wird es dann, wenn Einheimische involviert sind.
Bei einem Unfall haftet immer ausschliesslich der Fahrer, nicht der Besitzer!
Dann haben sich in den letzten Monaten sehr viel Unfälle auf dem Loop ereignet und ich muss mit Bedauern mitteilen, dass sich viele Touristen sehr schwere Verletzungen zugezogen haben. Einige dieser Unfälle waren auf gravierende technische Mängel oder den sehr hohen LKW-verkehr zurückzuführen. Mangelnde oder fehlende Wartung der Fahrzeuge waren hier meist mit die Ursache. (Kaputte Bremsen, blockierende Lenker um nur die schlimmsten Dinge zu erwähnen.). Zum Glück waren keine unserer Fahrzeuge oder Kunden in diese Unfälle involviert und wir wünschen allen weiterhin gute und sichere Fahrt.
Wir bieten euch weiterhin gute Motorräder in bester Qualität zu einem fairen Preis und freuen uns sehr, euch bald bei uns begrüßen zu dürfen. Auf in die neue Saison 25/26

Dear motorcycle friends from all over the world. I would love to hear your opinion on an important question.
We at Mad Monkey intend to buy e-MTBs so that we can also contribute to environmentally friendly tourism. However, this also means a very high investment in the bikes for us. Therefore, we would like to know from you if you would also do the loop with such a bike and if a price of $20 per day is appropriate for you. I ask for as many inputs from you as possible. I would like to thank you in advance for your answers and opinions.

Dear motorcycle friends, I was very surprised to find out that there is a rental company in Thakhek that offers a crash course for tourists who have no riding experience.
This is not only negligence, it is an intentional bodily injury for us. The loop is not feasible for tourists without driving skills!
This is due to the increasing heavy goods traffic, the sometimes very bad road conditions, animals and non-existent knowledge about traffic rules of the locals. In your own interest, we ask you not to ride the loop yourself if you do not have sufficient knowledge.
In 2023, 2 tourists died on the loop, counting serious accidents with the most serious injuries. And all for the reasons mentioned above.
We offer guided tours by car or an Easy Rider service for tourists with little or no driving experience.

Dear motorcycle friends,

I don't really think it's necessary that I have to justify our prices. But I am forced to react by false information spread by my competition.
We are accused of doubling prices. We didn't! We have 60% inflation in this country. We have had the same prices consistently for 7 years. Only our prices are in USD.
So, I have to vehemently reject this accusation.

Dear motorcycle friends,
Thanks again for your trust in the last season. Today we would like to tell you with pride and joy that we will also have our own guesthouse on offer for you from October 2024. For only 7$ per night.
The "Fip's Inn Hostel" in Thakhek.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our new guesthouse soon. It is located about 1,5 km from Mad Monkey, downstream the Mekong River in an idyllic garden. We offer you 27 beds in a family atmosphere.
You can relax on the terrace or in the orchid garden and enjoy Laotian hospitality to the fullest. Bars and restaurants are just a 3-minute walk away. They offer excellent Laotian and international food. To discover the area near by we have also bicycles for rent.
Arrival from Vientiane by bus or by plane from Bangkok via Nakhon Phanom. Then take the International Bus to Thakhek. We also offer a pick- up service from the airport there.
We offer free WIFI and air conditioning, car and motorbike rental, guided tours by car and motorbike as well an Easy rider service. Our drivers and guides speak German and English. All tours are individually adapted to the wishes of the customer. The duration is between 3 and 5 days, but can be extended if desired. (Fantastic jungle tours through the Nakai National Park by longtail boat and on foot. Experience an unforgettable adventure in untouched nature. Wild forest elephants, monkeys, waterfalls and much more. Duration for such an adventure between 1 and 4 days.)
Our service also includes transfers to the bus station in Thakhek, airports in Vientiane (approx. 350km), Savanahkhet (approx. 120km) and Pakse (approx. 330km), airport in Nakhon Phanom (48km) or train station in Udon Thani 260km (Thailand). All transfers are carried out by highly experienced drivers with air-conditioned minivans.
On request, the motorcycles or scooters from Mad Monkey can be brought directly to you in the guesthouse. Also, we offer you a detailed briefing about the loop, so that you can ride it safely and well informed.
