On February 8, Sarah said goodbye to her fiancé Jacob as he left Canada to study in the UK. Despite the separation, she was excited. The next time they would see each other would be at their wedding in June. But Sarah was diagnosed with stage two cancer and cannot travel because of her treatment. And as a UK citizen, Jacob cannot travel to Canada to be with her. He’s been denied entry twice as a result of COVID-19 travel restrictions. Sarah has pleaded with the Canadian government for help, but so far nothing. Sarah says because Jacob is not her spouse or common-law partner, his travel is deemed ‘non-essential’.
