The Lotus Tower is a 350 m high tower located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which serves as a transmitter for radio and television as well as an observation site and a shopping center (in the base of the building).
Construction lasted from 2014 to 2019 and the opening took place on September 16, 2022. It is the tallest structure in Sri Lanka.
The Lotus Tower represents, as its name suggests, a Lotus flower. In Sri Lankan culture, the lotus is associated with purity and spiritual awakening. It is commonly seen in Buddhist practices, where it symbolizes purity of body, speech and mind.
The base of the tower represents the stem of the flower, while the bulb-shaped upper part evokes the petals of the lotus in full bloom.
The tower is equipped with sophisticated lighting systems that allow it to illuminate in different colors at night, creating an impressive visual spectacle visible from afar. Its bulb is red, pink, purple, orange, yellow and blue.
