Sri Lanka Travel Update β Important Information for Visitors (December 2025)
Sri Lanka is recovering steadily after the recent extreme weather, and most major tourist areas are functioning normally, including
Negombo, Colombo, Galle, Mirissa, Bentota, Sigiriya, Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Pasikudah and other coastal & cultural destinations.
Hotels, restaurants, beaches, and main attractions in these locations remain open and operational.
π§οΈ Affected Regions
Some highland areas such as Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Haputale, Badulla and surrounding hill-country locations are still facing challenges.
Roads in these areas are not fully functional, but alternative routes are available.

π Train Services (Hill Country Line)
The iconic up-country railway line (ColomboβKandyβNanu OyaβEllaβBadulla) is currently not operating.
Repairs will take a few months, and the full scenic train journey will not be possible for some time.
However, authorities are working to introduce short train rides for tourists to experience a part of the journey until the full line reopens.
Letβs stay hopeful β the hill-country train adventure will return stronger soon. ππ
