Mahaweli Maha Seya is a stupa built in Kotmale, Sri Lanka. Gamini Dissanayake, the former Minister of Mahaweli Development and Leader of the Opposition, suggested that a stupa be erected to commemorate the places of worship that were submerged during the construction of the Kotmale Reservoir under the Mahaweli Development Program in the early 1980s. The completed stupa was unveiled on June 20, 2016 by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
