`Dreamland Sri Lanka
After many name changes over the millenniums, the name Sri Lanka meaning Holy Resplendent has been given to our splendid island ultimately and it seems to be most fitting in every sense.
Sri Lanka that came under the influences of three main foreign rulers and having received its independence in the year 1948 from the last ruler Great Britain is today a Peoples’ Democratic Republic that is making its way up hill in a journey of progress.
Sri Lanka, an island in the Indian Ocean is situated southwest of the Bay of Bengal, and lies between latitudes 5° and 10°N, and longitudes 79° and 82°E. Sri Lanka is separated from the subcontinent (India) by the Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait.
With the advantage of having natural harbors, the island not only became an anchorage point for the early maritime merchants but also became a popular stop for trading and gathering supplies and merchandise for the traders that made their long and challenging voyages that were powered by the monsoon winds.
Due to the many attractions that Sri Lanka has been blessed with in the forms of Nature, Culture, Culture, Scenic beauty, the irresistible Sunny Beaches and many more, this island has turned out to be a hot spot as a tourist destination.
Many thousands of tourists from all parts of the globe visit Sri Lanka each year seeking fulfillment of their expectations.
