🇱🇰 The Truth About Tipping in Sri Lanka
One of the most common questions travellers ask before visiting Sri Lanka is:
"Do I need to tip?"
The short answer is no but it's always appreciated.
Unlike some countries where tipping is expected almost everywhere, tipping in Sri Lanka is generally seen as a way to thank someone for excellent service rather than an obligation.
Many restaurants, especially hotels and tourist restaurants, already include a 10% service charge on the bill.
If a service charge has been added, you don't need to leave an additional tip unless you received exceptional service.
For small local restaurants, tipping is optional. Leaving a small amount as a thank you is always appreciated but never expected.

There is no expectation to tip taxi or tuk-tuk drivers.
