Sri lanka Travel Updated:

The officer in charge at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) reported yesterday evening (28) that a substantial number of flights, both inbound and outbound, have experienced delays or cancellations. These disruptions are primarily attributed to several aircraft that were previously diverted and remain stationed at alternative airports, including Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), as well as Trivandrum and Cochin airports in India. The continued absence of these aircraft from BIA is consequently impacting scheduled operations.

New Check-in times at Colombo International Airport.

Starting from 12:00 noon on 17th October 2025, passengers departing from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) will be permitted to check in up to four hours before their scheduled flight time, the airport management announced.

The new measure aims to enhance passenger convenience and ensure smoother airport operations, especially during peak travel hours.

According to the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited, the initiative is expected to help manage crowd flow, reduce congestion, and improve the overall travel experience at Sri Lanka’s main international gateway.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority announced that 1,788,235 tourists visited Sri Lanka in 2025 up to now, with 62,741 arrivals during the first 12 days of October 2025.

SLTDA highlighted that 38,475 tourists arrived from October 1 to 7, 2025, while 24,266 arrived from October 8 to 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, tourist arrivals from major source countries have increased, with leading at 18,299 visitors, followed by with 5,417, the at 4,874, with 3,804, at 2,954, and the with 1,558.
